Right to Housing: Join an event near you
Across Europe, local teams are bringing the European Citizens’ Initiative on the Right to Housing to life in their own communities.
As part of the ECI launch period from 14 September to 5 October, teams across Europe are organising activities and making the campaign their own. From street actions and community conversations to documentary screenings, bike rides and neighbourhood walks, teams are creating very different ways for people to come together, talk about the housing crisis and find out how they can support the push for European action.

🇫🇷 France — Paris
Event: Street Action for Affordable Housing

What to expect:
Join Volt and HouseEurope for an afternoon street action dedicated to affordable housing and the European Citizens’ Initiative on the Right to Housing. The team will have a stand in the area, speak with passers-by, distribute information and invite people to learn more and get involved in the ECI.

Event: Let’s unf*ck housing! Berlin meets Europe

What to expect:
What does Berlin’s housing crisis have in common with what is happening elsewhere in Europe — and what can we actually do about it? Speakers from Volt and HouseEurope will explore the European housing crisis, possible solutions and how European-level action can help tackle challenges experienced locally in Berlin.

🇵🇹 Portugal — Lisbon
Event: Lisbon Talks Housing: A participatory podcast recording on the Housing Crisis

Format: Live audience podcast recording with interactive community discussion
What to expect:
What does Lisbon’s housing crisis look like for the people experiencing it — and what needs to change? Join an interactive community conversation bringing together local experiences, audience perspectives and a wider discussion about housing and the European Citizens’ Initiative on the Right to Housing.
The conversation will feature Inês Bravo Figueiredo, Co-President of Volt Europa and Portuguese national, and will be recorded live with Radio Pistacchio. Audience participation will be at the heart of the evening, with opportunities to share experiences and perspectives on housing in Lisbon (including through a participatory Housing Bingo game which is guaranteed to elicit laughs!)

What to expect:
Join us for an evening combining film and conversation about Europe’s housing crisis. Housing expert Lucia Bastorolo will introduce the European Citizens’ Initiative on the Right to Housing and its ambitions, followed by a screening of the documentary Push. The evening will conclude with an open discussion where participants can reflect on the film, exchange perspectives and discuss what needs to change.

Event: Rome for the Right to Housing

What to expect:
Housing is increasingly becoming a shared challenge across Europe — but every city and country experiences it differently. This community event will start from the bigger European picture before turning the spotlight on Italy: what is driving the housing crisis, how is it affecting communities here, and how can citizens turn concern into collective action?
The discussion will connect the Italian housing debate with the wider European Citizens’ Initiative on the Right to Housing and explore how citizens can mobilise for change at both national and European level.

🇧🇪 Belgium — Brussels
Housing Meets Critical Mass! 🚲
Date & time: Friday, 25 September | 17:00
Meeting point: Place du Trône, Brussels — look for the yellow balloons 🎈
What to expect:
Housing takes to the streets — on two wheels! Join the Brussels team as the Right to Housing campaign meets Critical Mass. Bring your bike, friends, yellow vest and energy for a visible and lively ride through Brussels. Expect cargo bikes, music, flags, balloons and plenty of housing spirit.
Want to help prepare? A sign-making workshop will take place on Thursday, 24 September at 17:00 at îlot 111, Rue de Liverpool 23, Molenbeek. Bring any art supplies you can spare.

Walking the Brussels Housing Crisis
Date: Monday, 5 October — World Habitat Day
Arrival: 18:00–18:30, with an informal discussion before the walk begins
Meeting point: Corner of Rue du Houblon / Rue du Grand-Serment, 1000 Brussels
What to expect:
What does the housing crisis actually look like when you walk through it?
Join us on World Habitat Day for a guided neighbourhood walk exploring the reality of Brussels’ housing crisis up close. We’ll visit social housing blocks and other relevant sites, hear about the neighbourhood and the experiences of people who live there, and discuss affordable housing, empty buildings, redevelopment and what needs to change.
Along the way, Léonor Michiels, Coordinatrice développement social – Senne at SoHab asbl (Association de Solidarité pour l’Habitat), will help us understand the transformation of Rempart des Moines and what redevelopment and rehousing mean for residents, community ties and neighbourhood life. We are also exploring the possibility of hearing directly from a local resident about their experience.
Alexia Falisse, Chargée de mobilisation at the Rassemblement bruxellois pour le droit à l'habitat (RBDH), will help connect what we see locally to the wider housing-rights situation in Brussels, including affordability, access to housing and the structural challenges behind the crisis.
The walk is organised as part of the European Citizens’ Initiative on the Right to Housing and will finish with an informal moment where participants can continue the conversation together.
