Everyone Deserves the Right to Housing. Now and Forever.

Workers can no longer afford the cities they work in. Young people remain trapped living in their parents' homes. Tenants are pushed out of their neighbourhoods after building renovations, leaving empty properties while people sleep on the streets. The current housing market is putting profit before people.

This crisis does not stop at national borders. Key policy drivers originate at the European level, which means the solution must be European, too.

It does not have to be this way. The buildings already exist, as do the solutions to make them liveable and affordable. What is missing are EU-wide rules to fix the market: stop housing speculation, convert vacant properties, boost sustainable renovation, guarantee long-term rent affordability, and establish an EU Housing Agency to coordinate policy across Member States.

We Need 1 Million Signatures to Force EU Action - Sign on September 14!

Volt Europa, House Europe, and housing initiatives across Europe are leading an official European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) to demand housing justice. The ECI is a democratic instrument that legally obliges the European Commission to respond if 1 million EU citizens sign.

We are aiming for 1.2 million signatures to secure a bulletproof campaign. Signature collection starts September 14 2026—add your voice to put the right to affordable housing on the EU political agenda.
