Member Association past two years: Volt Italy + Volt Belgium
What new revenue streams will you develop to reduce dependency on membership fees, and what financial risks will you actively avoid?
To scale our movement, I will pursue two new revenue streams. First, we will seek external grants, leveraging our incoming Foundation (EUPF) status and building consortia with like-minded NGOs. Second, we will launch the "co-purple" affiliation tier—a pan-European strategy to engage and retain small, recurring donors who wish to sustain our values without holding formal voting rights. Furthermore, by transforming our internal General Assemblies into the public-facing "Europeans’ Convention," we will create a high-profile platform to attract partnerships, ensuring the event itself generates a positive financial balance.
Regarding risk, the greatest budgetary threat is a lack of revenue diversification, a vulnerability the initiatives above directly address. However, the ultimate financial risk is political: losing consensus and elected representatives. To mitigate this, we must strategically invest in key campaigns capable of laying the groundwork to elect higher-level officials across more countries. This ensures we build a resilient, pan-European political force and do not rely too heavily on just the few countries where Volt currently has MPs or MEPs.
What is your approach to communicating financial constraints during a crucial campaign moment?
As an "enabling" Treasurer, my approach to financial constraints is grounded in early planning, prioritisation, and agile fundraising. A crucial campaign moment should never be the first time we discuss funding. The treasury must foster a culture where all Volters pitch their strategies and resource needs early, allowing us to assess the expected impact and allocate resources effectively.
When constraints inevitably arise, my default is not a blunt "no," but a collaborative conversation about the "how." I view constraints on a spectrum. If a team requests a budget that exceeds our available resources, the discussion shifts to prioritisation: defining how to achieve the foundational goals with the resources we have, and identifying what we can adapt.
If an initiative is crucial but lacks resources, we can explore agile fundraising, launching targeted flash campaigns to bridge the gap. Ultimately, my approach to communicating constraints means being radically honest about available funds, but profoundly constructive about solutions. While my focus is co-creation, I am not afraid to say a firm "no" when necessary. This ensures financial limits foster innovation rather than frustration, keeping our teams focused on political impact.
What does financial transparency towards members mean to you in concrete terms? Describe 2–3 recurring reporting products or processes you would implement.
In a democratic organisation like Volt, true transparency goes beyond merely opening the books; it requires actively explaining the dynamic behind the numbers. Financial transparency must be accessible, context-driven, and focused on how our invested Euros translate into political success.
To achieve this, I will implement three recurring processes:
- The Quarterly Treasury Community Hub: I will establish quarterly meetings with treasurers from all chapters. This will not just be a technical alignment call, but a platform to consolidate our financial data. By integrating chapter-level data with Volt Europa’s metrics, we will produce a comprehensive, pan-European view of our collective financial health.
- Accessible Narrative Reports: Arising from these meetings, we will translate our detailed financial data into narrative-driven regular reports. These will highlight where our money goes, the impact of our campaigns, and how we are pacing towards the 2029 European election.
- Collaborative Executive Briefings: I see an opportunity to improve our monthly financial reports by transforming them into a collaborative space. These briefings will help the Board and Executive Team grasp our financial reality, enabling campaign planning and resource allocation.
Ultimately, transparency is about trust. By telling the story of our budget, we empower our members to
