Low wage growth combined with surging rent costs and unmonitored short-term rentals has created a severe housing emergency across Italian cities. Because many underlying fiscal and regulatory frameworks originate in Brussels, effective policy solutions must be built at the European level. Volt is taking a lead role alongside House Europe! to spearhead a European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) that unites local struggles into a single, powerful democratic demand for EU housing justice.
Housing is increasingly becoming a shared challenge across Europe — but every city and country experiences it differently. This community event will start from the bigger European picture before turning the spotlight on Italy: what is driving the housing crisis, how is it affecting communities here, and how can citizens turn concern into collective action?
