Political Team Lead (f/m/d) (Volunteer)

Volt Europa is expanding its Political Positioning team into a broader Political Team. Alongside political positioning, the team will take on two things we currently don't have at European level: political strategy and press relations. We're looking for someone to lead and grow this team, working directly with our co-presidents.

Where this role fits

Several Volt Europa teams work on how Volt presents itself. In short: 

  • Policy team: develops Volt's policy proposals and programme

  • Comms team: runs Volt's own channels (social media, website, newsletters)

  • Campaigning team: plans and runs campaigns and mobilisation

  • Political Team (this role): decides how Volt positions itself politically, develops political strategy, and handles press and external relationships

This is a behind-the-scenes role. Volt's co-presidents are our political spokespeople; the Political Team prepares and supports them.

You will report to the co-presidents. You won't start from zero: the team already includes the current Political Positioning volunteers, several volunteers with PR and strategy experience, and full-time staff from Volt Germany and Volt Netherlands who work on these topics. You'll bring this group together and recruit the remaining roles based on the plan you develop. The HR team can support you with recruitment.

What you will do

  • Lead and grow the Political Team: bring existing members together, define roles and recruit for the gaps

  • Develop Volt Europa's political strategy, including ECI project, and help national teams develop their own

  • Coordinate outreach: press contacts, partnerships with external organisations and relationships with political allies

  • Oversee the team's written output: op-eds, position papers, press releases, and interview preparation for the co-presidents

  • Work with national political leads so Volt communicates consistently across countries

What success looks like: by the end of 2026, the team is set up, has a working plan and has delivered first results.

What we're looking for

Must have

  • Demonstrable experience leading a team

  • Experience in political strategy (for example in a party, campaign, public affairs or advocacy)

  • Fluent English

Nice to have

  • Experience coordinating people across countries and time zones

  • Experience with press relations or external partnerships

  • Strong writing skills, or experience directing people who write op-eds, position papers and press releases

  • Other European languages
