Kai Tegethoff

As an architectural draughtsman and civil engineer, Kai enjoyed a lengthy scientific education. He worked for almost seven years as a research assistant at TU Kaiserslautern and TU Braunschweig in the fields of hydraulic engineering and coastal engineering. During this time, he was passionately committed to innovative teaching and continued his education, particularly in the field of university didactics.

Kai is politically active at Volt since the end of 2020. In 2021 he was elected to the Braunschweig City Council, where he gained political experience as a councillor, group chairman and parliamentary group leader.

In the 2024 European elections, Kai was elected to the European Parliament, where he represents Volt since July 2024 as coordinator of the Greens/EFA Group on the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN). In addition he is a substitute member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and of the Committee on Budgets (BUDG).

 In his parliamentary work, Kai is, especially committed to:

1. attractive rail transport by improving the booking and ticketing system, strengthening passenger rights, and developing and harmonising rail infrastructure,

2. the sustainable adaptation of infrastructure to climate change by developing an effective European approach, favouring long-term and nature-based solutions that counteract climate change,

3. supporting the transition to sustainable mobility by promoting the shift from road traffic to other modes of transport and by electrification of road traffic,

4. empowering consumers for the green and climate-neutral transition through better information and through adequate pricing of unsustainable products and practices,

5. the systemic restructuring of the European budget so that it efficiently serves the implementation of sustainable solutions, supports European values and promotes them in the national budgets of member states and third countries.
