Regarding the recent no-confidence vote in Bulgaria
Volt Bulgaria will continue to fight for our ideals and for a country that can bring prosperity, peace and freedom to all its citizens.
After only six months in power the governing coalition in Bulgaria, which Volt was part of, lost a vote of no-confidence last Wednesday. Prime Minister Kiril Petkov’s government was a pro-EU and anti-corruption coalition that joined other EU member states in standing with Ukraine and fighting Russia’s narrative. Volt Bulgaria, represented by its two members of Parliament, has supported this government and joined the recent protests in support of it.
The vote of no-confidence was prompted by politician Slavi Trifonov and his party that withdrew from the coalition. According to Trifonov, his reasons behind this course of action were connected to his disagreement on the budget and considering the approach of prime minister Petkov too soft on North Macedonia. Critics say that the main reason is the government’s anti-corruption policies. However, this will lead to Bulgarians entering into their fourth parliamentary election since April 2021.
Volt Bulgaria will continue to fight for our ideals and for a country that can bring prosperity, peace and freedom to all its citizens. As such, Volt Bulgaria will join the upcoming elections as they strive decisively into transforming their home based on the values of an open, just and democratic society.
We stand with our fellow Europeans in Bulgaria in these challenging times and wish them and their country the best of luck for the upcoming elections.
