New Elected Official: Local Councillor for Volt Belgium in Tervuren

Almost 8 years ago, three young Europeans studying in New York saw in Trump's rise and in the success of populist anti-EU movements across Europe the need for a truly pan-European progressive political force to counter the rise of that extreme rhetoric. They founded Volt Europa. Now, years later, as Donald Trump is headed back to the White House, Volt is stronger than ever and stands as a growing movement for a strong and progressive Europe. 

Volt's growth is also noticed in Belgium! After local elections on the 13th of October, it was confirmed that Volt Belgium will have its  first-ever representative take public office: Tracey D’Afters in the Municipal Council of Tervuren! 

After the confirmation of her election, D’Afters reacted:

“I am delighted to announce that yesterday evening, 5 November, I signed and submitted the official papers to accept my mandate to sit on the town council of Tervuren representing Volt. 

I want to thank everyone who voted for me and for Volt on 13 October 2024. I am honoured to represent you and our community over the coming six years. 

I will take up my role as the only elected councillor of non-Belgian origin to sit Tervuren’s council; the first Volt councillor in Belgium and the ninth woman in the new council. 

Together with our electoral partner, Tervuren Unie, we had the most diverse list in our town and won collectively 4 seats. 

I’m looking forward to advocating as a council member for a better, more diverse Tervuren and to working constructively with the governing parties from within the opposition.”
