The Legal team supports Volt Europa by providing legal assistance to the European Board, the European functional teams and national chapters. As Volt Europa is an organization that operates within the framework of Belgium law, we are urgently looking for someone who has a background in Belgium law.
Are you a Belgium lawyer? Please join our team!
Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?
Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, economic and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 280 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.
Volt is an inclusive movement where everyone has the space to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for society at large, and we are committed to representing the many voices and perspectives of Europe. We value and celebrate the unique background you bring, including your skin color, gender identity, disabilities, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs. You are welcome here, and together, we can make "United in Diversity" a reality for all of Europe.
The legal team advises the European Board on governance, both about the interpretation of the current rulebook and on future developments, which are formalised through alterations of the Articles of Association. In the near future, the legal team will have a vital role to play with the formal setting up of the European Political Party. As Volt Europa is a Belgian legal entity, knowledge of the Belgian legal system is highly desired.
What will you do?
As member of the legal team, you will play a key role in the interpretation and development of the Volt governance:
Interpretation and explanation of the current governance structure.
Formal check of the Articles of Association of new chapters, to judge if they are fair, solidly democratic and gender balanced.
Development of the governance structure of the European Political Party.
Development of the future course of the governance of the association
What skills do you need to excel in this role?
A law degree
Some professional experience in a legal environment, either as lawyer, legal counsel at company or at the government.
As we have to apply Belgian association law, knowledge of the Belgian legal system is required.
We require a commitment to volunteer for up to 5 hr / week. Work can be done anywhere with an internet connection and it's mostly done at your own convenience (async) but we also require attendance to a twice-a-month meeting on Tuesday evenings (CET).
