Eur Tech Sovereignty Lead (f/m/d)

Volt is committed to transition away from US tech in favor of European alternatives. This shift isn’t without its challenges as platforms like Google are deeply embedded in our operations, and defining what truly constitutes European Tech Sovereignty is complex.

There are open questions like:

  • Is a company head quartered in the EU but hosting in AWS tech sovereign?

  • Are open-source tools developed by US-based companies acceptable for Volt?

  • When is it acceptable to use tools that lack a viable European alternative?

As such the focus of this new team would be to:

  • Define tech sovereignty: Establish clear, actionable criteria for what it means to be tech sovereign in Volt’s context.

  • Gather requirements: Identify and document Volt’s needs for tools like Google, ensuring any alternatives meet our operational and ethical standards.

  • Develop proposals: Create compelling, data-backed recommendations for European alternatives to present to the European board.

  • Support transitions: Guide and assist other teams in migrating to new tools, ensuring a smooth and effective transition.

Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?

Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 200 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.

Volt is an inclusive movement that wants to provide space for everyone to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for our society at large. We can only be the inclusive political movement we aspire to be, if we represent different voices and perspectives in our society. You are welcome in our organisation, and we want to work together with you to create a better Europe for everyone.
