Confidant Person

Confidant Persons listen to, support and advise members when they want to disclose confidential matters, such as bullying, discrimination, transgressive behaviour, (sexual) intimidation, aggression or violence. A Confidant Person offers a safe space and listens to the member and helps the member explore their needs and possible next steps ahead. At all times, the member makes their own decision as to the next steps they want to take. Confidant persons are independent and do not contact anyone involved, nor pass judgement. They solely create space for the member’s emotions in case the member just wants to tell their story, and the member can receive support in figuring out what to do next if they feel that the need arises. Moreover, the role of the confidant person could also be required by the organisation itself to educate and inform on topics such as prevention, inappropriate behaviour, or other consultations.

Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?

Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 200 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.

Volt is an inclusive movement that wants to provide space for everyone to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for our society at large. We can only be the inclusive political movement we aspire to be, if we represent different voices and perspectives in our society. Your skin colour, gender identity, disabilities, sexual orientation or religious belief do not matter. You are welcome in our organisation, and we want to work together with you to create a better Europe for everyone.

What will you do?

Volt Europa should at least have two Confidant Persons. Therefore, we are looking for at least one more. Ideally, the goal will be to explore the possibility of bringing together a pool of confident persons from different chapters and backgrounds to facilitate the processing of cases.

The Confidant Persons have the following competences:

  1. Offering a listening ear;

  2. Referring members to the correct integrity entity;

  3. Advising the member(s) on the steps they can take;

  4. Reporting complaints with regards to behaviour as set out in the General Reporting Procedure, should the member wish to stay anonymous

  5. Producing a report every two years to be collected by the Ombudsperson.

What skills do you need to excel in this role?

Research shows that (oftentimes) female candidates only apply when they meet 100% of the requirements, while male candidates do so when they meet just 60%. We explicitly encourage everyone to apply: you don’t have to tick every box to apply. We also consider your potential and motivation!

Suitable candidates:

  • Are empathetic and have active listening skills;

  • Are independent;

  • Have integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times;

  • Have awareness of and sensitivity to the multicultural and diverse environment in which Volt Europa operates;

  • English proficiency, and additional languages are preferred;

  • Professional training is appreciated;

  • Have knowledge of the working of the organisation;

  • Have experience with supporting others in challenging work situations - not a requirement but highly regarded.

As a Confidant Person, it is imperative that you can exercise your role as neutrally and impartially as possible, without any conflicts of interest. Please disclose if you hold any other positions within the organisation; this may be relevant for the evaluation of your application in this context.
