EUR Policy Co-Lead (male/diverse) (Volunteer)

Title: EUR Policy Co-Lead, EUR Policy Team

 

Reports to: Volt Europa General Secretary and the European Board

 

Location: Remote


The EUR Policy Co-Lead is responsible for furthering Volt’s European vision by ensuring that its policy portfolio is developed and refined in a way that is participatory, evidence-based and inclusive.

You will manage a team of policy experts and core team members from across Europe to craft policies that offer progressive solutions to cross-border problems. You will also oversee the alignment of policies between the European and National Policy Teams, and offer essential support to National Policy Teams in the formulation and execution of their policy programmes for upcoming elections.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in policy development, strategic leadership, and a deep understanding of both European and national political landscapes.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Shape the strategic priorities of Volt Europa after the 2024 European Parliament elections from a policy development and implementation perspective.

  • Establish and manage a cohesive team that works towards Volt’s priorities and continues to develop Volt’s policy portfolio in line with the principles of inclusive, evidence-based, participatory policymaking.

  • Support national policy teams with their own policy development while ensuring that their policies align with Volt Europa’s central principles.

  • Set up appropriate channels to ensure that Volt members are able to contribute to policy development. Ensure that policy processes engage Volt members at all levels and create policy that fairly reflects people’s needs.

  • Represent the EUR Policy Team in discussions with the Board.

  • Set an example of collaborative working and foster a good working environment within the team and across the organisation.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in building and leading teams, and the ability to motivate and inspire volunteers while remaining conscious of the pressures of volunteering.

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

  •  A diplomatic nature, able to collaborate with people at different levels of the organisation or in different national contexts.

  • Good networking skills and the ability to represent Volt to stakeholders.

  • English language competence at CEFR level C1 or above. (The working language of Volt Europa’s EUR Policy Team is English.)

  • Policy writing skills and an understanding of the European legislative process.

  • A commitment to upholding principles of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work, including the channels through which policy is made.

Desirable:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in a policy-related role, preferably in a political or advocacy setting.

  • Research and analysis skills (quantitative and qualitative), required to build an evidence base for policymaking.

  • Experience in organising and coordinating events, preferably in a political or advocacy setting.

  • Understanding of the internal structures of Volt Europa, its vision and values.

 

Please note that this is an unpaid volunteering position. The EUR Policy Co-Lead will be expected to commit 10-15 hours a week to the role.
