Editorial Review Assistant - Volunteer
Under the guidance of the Editorial Review Lead, Editorial Review Assistants are responsible for ensuring that existing and proposed policy is of a high quality, both in terms of substance and presentation. They employ their keen attention to detail to examine whether existing Volt policy is still appropriate and are instrumental in forming new European-level policy, ensuring that new proposals are well-expressed, coherent and founded in suitable research.

Main responsibilities
In collaboration with the EUR Editorial Review Lead and the Policy Shapers, undertake a substantive review of Volt’s current policy portfolio. Simultaneously conduct an editorial review of the portfolio to identify logical or grammatical errors, issues of coherence and out-of-date/ unsuitable referencing.
Work with Policy Shapers and other policy developers within Volt to form well-thought-out, coherent and accessible policy proposals and positions to enhance Volt’s policy portfolio.
Support the Policy Platform Lead in the continued development of Policy Platform in order to make it as user-friendly and accessible as possible.
Attend regular (monthly) online Policy Team meetings and reliably provide progress updates.

Qualifications
Required:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to absorb complex information and present it to different audiences in a clear and accessible way.
Well-developed research skills and the ability to determine whether conclusions derived from references are appropriate to the policy they intend to support.
A keen eye for detail in order to identify logical and grammatical errors in texts.
English language competence at CEFR level C1 or above. (The working language of Volt Europa’s EUR Policy Team is English.)
A commitment to upholding principles of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work, including the channels through which policy is made.
Desirable:
A Bachelor’s degree, or formal training or experience in policy making and policy writing.
Please note that this is an unpaid volunteering position. Editorial Review Assistants are expected to commit an average of 5 hours a week to the role, however, as the work is largely project based, the time commitment will vary depending on project priorities.
