Social media & communications trainee for the Volt Europa delegation in the European Parliament

We are looking for a trainee to translate the complexities of European politics into compelling social media content and build the online profiles of Anna Strolenberg and Reinier van Lanschot. As a Social Media & Communications Trainee you will be creating video content, building an online community, and managing a whole range of social platforms - as well as launching some new ones. We work across most social media platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and TikTok

You will work directly with Anna & Reinier and their communication team. You will do what the comms team does - no coffee runs or data entry! We are looking for candidates who can work seamlessly in the team, while taking on challenges and projects of their own. Candidates should be able to write video scripts and captions, shoot and edit video, and develop their own content ideas. You should be prepared to receive and implement feedback both from the comms team as well as from Anna & Reinier directly. Support, guidance, and mentoring will always be available, but we also expect you to be able to work unassisted and start your own initiatives.

We want someone who lives and breathes social media, someone who can juggle numerous roles and responsibilities, and has knowledge of broader European politics. The role would run from September 2025 until the end of January 2026. We are (somewhat) flexible on start and end dates.

We want to underline that, above all, please apply even if you are wondering if you fit the profile! We value equity of opportunity and believe that creativity and knack for unique communication can come from all corners of professional backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

Create content for various social media platforms which includes but is not limited to:

  • Explainer videos for various Volt policy positions/decisions

  • Fun meme-style videos with a kernel of Volt truth in them

  • Longer-format LinkedIn posts that go deeper on specific topics

  • Quick reaction posts on Bluesky in response to breaking news

  • Creating still images as Instagram posts or video covers

Take the lead in our new TikTok channel for the entire Volt delegation at the European Parliament.

  • Create videos that are oddball, unique, and completely original. This is our experimental page!

  • Staying on top of trends

  • Finding unique ways to translate politics into platform-accurate TikTok content

  • Star in the videos yourself!

Manage comments and DMs on a range of social platforms

  • Replying in the tone of voice of both MEPs

  • Writing honest, factually accurate, and personal replies

  • Making sure sensitive topics are handled very carefully

  • Ongoing development of the broader comms/social media strategy of the MEPs

  • racking and recording insights from social media platforms to give us the means of making data-led decisions

  • Come up with ideas to improve our outreach and media presence

We ask for:

  • A curious and creative mind with the ability to break down complex topics and issues into accessible social content

  • Sense of initiative to start and carry out own projects

  • An encyclopedic knowledge of the latest TikTok and Instagram trends

  • Experience in video and photo editing

  • Strong and demonstrable English writing and speaking skills (Dutch writing and speaking skills would be a plus but are not a key requirement)

  • Enthusiasm for Europe, the idea of European unity and an ability to work across Europe with different national Volt teams

  • Please note that this role requires residency in Brussels or a willingness to relocate

We would be happy about:

  • Experience in marketing, public relations, journalism, design, production, and community management

  • Experience working in a political context, either directly with the political entity or through various projects

  • An understanding of the role of different EU institutions

  • Any additional language spoken or written is a plus

What we offer:

  •  A space to create, grow and develop your ideas - if you have a great idea for a piece of content, we will make it!

  • First-hand experience in the work of a Member of the European Parliament

  • A fun, young and international team

  • Monthly gross salary of €1.675 (highest possible trainee allowance from the European Parliament).
