Are you motivated by the responsibility of shaping political positions at critical moments for Europe? Do you have the analytical skills, political judgement, and the ability to contribute responsibly to internal advisory discussions required to advise elected leadership in a fast-moving political environment? Are you comfortable working in a high-trust advisory support role, contributing to rapid and coherent political positioning? Then apply to join Volt Europa’s Political Positioning Team and help advise the Co-Presidents in articulating the movement’s political voice.
Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?
Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, economic and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 280 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.
Volt is an inclusive movement where everyone has the space to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for society at large, and we are committed to representing the many voices and perspectives of Europe. We value and celebrate the unique background you bring, including your skin color, gender identity, disabilities, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs. You are welcome here, and together, we can make "United in Diversity" a reality for all of Europe.
What will you do?
As a member of the Political Positioning Team, you will act as a trusted political advisor to the Co-Presidents of Volt Europa in their role as political spokespersons of the organisation. The team’s mandate is advisory: it does not take formal political decisions, which remain the responsibility of the Co-Presidents.
Your responsibilities will include:
Advising the Co-Presidents on political positioning and messaging in response to fast-moving political events at European and international level.
Contributing to the formulation of rapid political responses in situations where a full policy development cycle is not feasible.
Drafting full political statements, including careful formulation, internal iteration, and alignment with strategic considerations, recognising that statement-writing often requires substantial time, judgement, and deliberation.
Working closely with the Policy Lead as well as experts within the organization to ensure coherence between political positioning and existing Volt policies, as well as emerging policy proposals from thematic communities.
Coordinating with the Communications Lead to ensure that political positions can be communicated quickly, clearly, and consistently.
Supporting internal coherence by contributing to the alignment of political positions with elected representatives (MEPs, MPs and others) when relevant.
Operating in a high-trust, confidential advisory environment, where discretion and political judgement are essential.
What skills do you need to excel in this role?
Strong political judgement and the ability to analyse complex political developments rapidly.
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to formulate clear, concise, and politically coherent positions.
Capacity to work under time pressure and respond to urgent political developments.
High level of discretion, reliability, and personal integrity.
Ability to work collaboratively in a small, high-trust advisory setting.
Ability to connect political positioning with broader policy frameworks.
Emotional resilience and robustness in the face of political pressure and conflict, including the ability to engage constructively with criticism and internal disagreements without losing judgement or motivation.
What requirements do we ask for this role?
Proven experience or strong demonstrated interest in political analysis, advocacy, policy, or political communications.
Alignment with Volt Europa’s values and political vision.
Availability to contribute on a voluntary basis, with flexibility depending on political developments.
Fluency in written and spoken English (additional European languages are an asset).
Ability to work constructively with elected leaders, policy experts, and communications professionals.
We require a commitment of 5-10h weekly (the time commitment can vary with weeks of almost no work and others that require more time). Work can be done anywhere with an internet connection and is mostly async with only one online meeting that requires attendance on Wednesdays (13:00-13:45 CET).
Membership in Volt mandatory, applicants should currently be Volt members or sign up here right after being selected. If you are from Germany please register using this link.
