Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?

Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 200 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.

Volt is an inclusive movement that wants to provide space for everyone to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for our society at large. We can only be the inclusive political movement we aspire to be, if we represent different voices and perspectives in our society. Your skin colour, gender identity, disabilities, sexual orientation or religious belief do not matter. You are welcome in our organisation, and we want to work together with you to create a better Europe for everyone.

About the European Policy Coordination Team

As EUR Quality Team reviewer you will be reporting to the European Policy Coordination Team. The European Policy Coordination Team’s mission is to serve the vision of Volt Europa. We strive to make policymaking an inclusive environment for all and to develop policy proposals of the highest quality. Our core responsibilities include overseeing and promoting policymaking within Volt Europa and beyond.

What will you do?

As Policy Quality Reviewer, you will play a key role in shaping Volt Europa’s policies. You will:

  • On behalf of the EUR Policy Coordination team, review policy proposals formally submitted through the Volt Policy Process to ensure they are fit for purpose in terms of argumentation, structure and evidence, using formalised quality criteria, and providing feedback to policy developers where necessary.

  • Work with Volters, especially in the European Communities, to assist them in drafting new policy.

  • Attend regular (online) meetings of the EUR Policy Quality Review team and/or EUR Editorial Team and reliably provide progress updates.

  • As a newly-established team, it may be necessary to refine and/or develop internal processes.

What requirements/ skills do we ask for this role?

Research shows that (oftentimes) female candidates only apply when they meet 100% of the requirements, while male candidates do so when they meet just 60%. We explicitly encourage everyone to apply: you don’t have to tick every box to apply. We also consider your potential and motivation!

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to absorb complex information and present it to different audiences in a clear and accessible way.

  • Well-developed research skills and the ability to determine whether conclusions derived from references are appropriate to the policy they intend to support.

  • A keen eye for detail in order to identify logical argumentation.

  • The ability to work systematically, to analyse policy proposals and measure them against standardised criteria.

  • English language competence at CEFR level C1 or above. (The working language of Volt Europa’s EUR Policy Team is English.)

  • A commitment to upholding principles of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work, including the channels through which policy is made.

  • Volt Europa Member or Supporter status.

  • We require a commitment to volunteer around 5 hours / week. Work can be done anywhere with an internet connection and it is mostly async, although one monthly meeting is required (typically in the evening CET)

Nice to have

  • A Bachelor’s degree, or formal training or experience in policy-making or policy-writing.

  • Experience in leading, or working within, a team of volunteers.

  • Additional European language skills.
