Volt elects European lead candidates and transnational list
MEPs Damian Boeselager and Sophie in ‘t Veld elected as European lead candidates for Volt. As the only party in Europe, Volt sets up transnational list with candidates from 20 European countries.
Brussels, Sunday 7th April 2024 – Volt leads by example and ambition by kicking off its campaign for the European Parliament elections this weekend in Brussels with a truly transnational list and strong Lead candidate Duo. German MEP Damian Boeselager and Dutch MEP Sophie in ‘t Veld were elected by the members from all over Europe and will be unifying figures in Volt’s ambitious plans for a truly pan-European campaign, aiming for a greener, more just, and innovative Europe in the European Parliament elections this June.
Damian Boeselager is convinced:
History doesn’t just happen, it’s us as individuals that have the power to decide how things will go. We understood that responsibility. We are showing Europe what our democracy should look like. We are the only true European party that puts forward a real transnational list, with candidates from 20 different countries, under the same program and name on the national and European level. There are many parties that call themselves European but there is only one that actually is – and that is Volt
Sophie in ‘t Veld adds to that:
I have been giving all my passion to Europe for over 30 years but to be the Spitzenkandidat for a truly European party is extra special for me. The people who launched the European project had the power to imagine a better Europe amidst the ruins of two world wars. We as the only truly European party are now the first ones to launch a truly transnational list with truly European Spitzenkandidaten. We are showing Europe: this is possible!
The members voted for Europe’s first-ever Union-wide list with candidates from 20 different European countries (Albania, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom) for the European elections which marks a historic moment in European democracy and signifies a unifying force within Volt's ambitious vision for truly pan-European politics. This groundbreaking symbolic list is a first of its kind created according to the European Parliament’s proposal for such a vote in the future. Volt believes that unveiling such a list already is an important step towards strengthening European democracy.
This marks a significant moment for Volt, reflecting our collective aspiration to promote our progressive and pan-European ideas in the European Parliament’s next legislature.
In the elections for the European Parliament Volt aims to run in 16 different European countries and to win up to 10 seats.
