Intern to the Co-President Sven

About Volt

Only a Europe that acts together can rise to today’s challenges. Volt was founded to offer a home to people who want a different kind of politics: open, ambitious, and truly European. As the first pan-European party, we work across borders to strengthen democracy, amplify citizens’ voices, and help Europe live up to its potential. Active in more than 30 countries, we bring people together to rethink politics from the local level to the European stage.

The Role

We are looking for an Executive Trainee to act as the "extended brain, hands, eyes, and feet" for Sven, the new Co-President of Volt Europa.

This is not a narrow specialist position or a pure administrative job; it is a dynamic, high-trust generalist role. Your main purpose is to reduce the operational and logistical load on Sven, allowing him to focus on high-value political work. You will help him stay organized, visible, and prepared in a fast-moving, partly reactive environment.

We are looking for someone who thrives on autonomy and proactivity. You will be expected to operate on the "rubber duck" principle: think challenges through independently, propose solutions, and escalate only when necessary. You will have the space to shape your focus and exercise strong judgment, though Sven will retain final sign-off on sensitive political and public content.

What You Will Do

  • Operational and Logistical Support: Act as a gatekeeper for inbound requests from local teams and external partners, helping decide what is worth the Co-President's time. Manage calendar flow, organize end-to-end travel, and prepare comprehensive briefings for meetings and major milestones so Sven knows exactly where to be, with whom, and why.

  • Communications and Visibility Support: Help translate Sven’s ideas into publishable social media content. You will support digital workflows with a strong emphasis on video content (planning, recording guidance, editing coordination, and scheduling).

  • Strategic Coordination Support: Assist with Sven’s first-term flagship priorities, notably the "ECI Machine" (using European Citizens' Initiatives as a mobilization vehicle to build a 1M+ mailing list). You will help prep for media appearances, YouTuber collaborations, and ensure strategic follow-ups don't slip through the cracks.

  • Internal Network Coordination: Help Sven understand and connect with the organization's machinery. You will support cross-border information flow, collect success stories, and improve internal visibility across Volt's national and local chapters.

What We Are Looking For

Must-haves:

  • Proactive Generalist Mindset: You are not waiting to be managed every step of the way. You think two steps ahead, spot what needs doing before being told, and enjoy turning complexity into actionable plans.

  • Exceptional Organization: You can juggle admin, logistics, content creation, and political coordination without dropping the ball.

  • Digital & Social Media Literacy: A good understanding of digital comms workflows, especially regarding social media video planning and creation.

  • Strong Judgment & Adaptability: You are comfortable with ambiguity, can ruthlessly prioritize multiple requests, and know when to work autonomously vs. when to seek sign-off.

  • Communication Skills: Strong writing and stakeholder coordination skills. You can maintain an informal, highly responsive communication style.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Already a Volt member or highly familiar with the organization's internal structures, stakeholders, and transnational network.

  • Experience in a political, NGO, or campaign environment.

  • Hands-on experience with social video workflows (Canva, CapCut, or similar) and political communications.

What We Offer

Volt is primarily a volunteer-driven organization, which means flexibility matters. We aim for trainees to work around 38 hours per week, but we understand that working patterns need to fit both your schedule and Sven’s.

You will join a dynamic, high-trust environment, working closely with leadership and full-time staff. This is a unique chance to gain a close-up, unfiltered view of European political work inside a growing movement, with significant room to shape the scope of your role.

Practical Details

  • Start Date: ASAP (Ideally late July or August 2026, to assist with late-August milestones).

  • Duration: 6 months initial contract.

  • Compensation: €550 gross per month for a full-time contract. Please note: due to our current payroll setup, we can only employ trainees legally residing in the Netherlands or Belgium at this time.
