EUR Tech Security Co-Lead (female/ diverse) - Volunteer opportunity
Are you a strategic leader with a security-first mindset and a proven ability to manage digital risk? Do you excel at implementing policies, responding to incidents, and fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness? If you're ready to make a high-impact contribution to a pan-European political movement by co-leading the team that protects all our digital platforms, then apply now to join Volt Europa Tech Team as our Security Co-Lead!
Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?
Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 200 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.
Volt is an inclusive movement that wants to provide space for everyone to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for our society at large. We can only be the inclusive political movement we aspire to be, if we represent different voices and perspectives in our society. Your skin colour, gender identity, disabilities, sexual orientation or religious belief do not matter. You are welcome in our organisation, and we want to work together with you to create a better Europe for everyone. We're looking for a female/diverse Co-Lead to help us build a more diverse and dynamic Tech Team. Our team is presently predominantly male, and we’re committed to changing that.
What will you do?
As the EUR Tech Security Co-Lead, you will work alongside the current lead to implement and enforce the security policies, procedures, and tools that protect Volt’s digital platforms, infrastructure, and data from cyber threats and data leaks. Your leadership is crucial to maintaining a safe and resilient digital environment. You will:
Co-Lead the Security Team: Mentor, motivate, and manage an international team of skilled volunteers, overseeing day-to-day operations and strategic security projects.
Incident Response Management: Solve cybersecurity incidents by coordinating response, investigation, and recovery efforts to minimise impact and prevent recurrence.
Risk Mitigation and Strategy: Identify vulnerabilities across our infrastructure, data, and systems, and strategise measures to limit the attack surface and ensure robust defence.
Cyber Awareness Improvement: Design and implement programs to increase the cybersecurity awareness of Volt staff and volunteers through training, documentation, and communication.
Monitoring and Auditing: Help manage the monitoring of systems for suspicious activity and oversee regular security audits and testing.
What skills do you need to excel in this role?
Research shows that (oftentimes) female candidates only apply when they meet 100% of the requirements, while male candidates do so when they meet just 60%. We explicitly encourage everyone to apply: you don’t have to tick every box to apply. We also consider your potential and motivation!
Leadership Potential: Experience in leading or co-leading technical or security-focused teams, including mentoring and delegating tasks to achieve shared goals.
Cybersecurity Expertise: Practical knowledge of security principles, threat landscapes, network security, and vulnerability management. You don’t need to be an expert!
Policy and Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and regulatory requirements like GDPR.
Excellent Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional ability to communicate security risks and best practices clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
What requirements do we ask for this role?
Project & Team Management Experience: Experience managing projects and team members, ideally in an IT context.
Proficiency in English: Strong command of the English language is required for internal communication and documentation.
Legal Membership: You must be a legal member of Volt Europa.
Time Commitment: You can commit time regularly (expected to be 8–10 hours per week), with the flexibility to adapt working hours to fit your life.
What do we offer?
The opportunity to make a tangible, crucial impact by safeguarding the entire pan-European movement's operations and data.
A high-level leadership position at the forefront of digital risk management.
A dynamic, flexible, and fully remote work environment where you will collaborate with passionate, skilled, and like-minded individuals from across Europe.
Valuable, high-impact experience in a fast-paced international political organisation, ideal for professional development in the security field.
