EUR Tech Infrastructure Co-Lead (female/ diverse) - Volunteer opportunity
Are you a strategic thinker with a proven track record in technical infrastructure? Do you excel at leading teams, driving complex projects, and ensuring the stability and security of large IT systems? If you're ready to make a significant impact on a pan-European political movement by co-managing the critical infrastructure that powers our work, then apply now to join Volt Europa Tech Team as our Infrastructure Co-Lead!
Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?
Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 200 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.
Volt is an inclusive movement that wants to provide space for everyone to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for our society at large. We can only be the inclusive political movement we aspire to be, if we represent different voices and perspectives in our society. Your skin colour, gender identity, disabilities, sexual orientation or religious belief do not matter. You are welcome in our organisation, and we want to work together with you to create a better Europe for everyone. We're looking for a female/diverse Co-Lead to help us build a more diverse and dynamic Tech Team. Our team is presently predominantly male, and we’re committed to changing that.
What will you do?
As the EUR Tech Infrastructure Co-Lead, you will work alongside the current lead to manage and enhance the foundational IT systems that support all of Volt Europa’s activities. Your leadership will be key to maintaining secure and stable infrastructure. You will:
Co-Lead the Infrastructure Team: Mentor, motivate, and manage an international team of volunteers.
Strategic Planning and Development: Contribute to the strategic direction, planning, and improvement of Volt’s core technological infrastructure (e.g., cloud services, network, security, internal systems).
Project Management: Oversee and drive key infrastructure projects from conception through to deployment, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and adhere to security best practices.
System Maintenance and Stability: Ensure the smooth, stable, and secure operation of all essential systems and tools used daily by members and volunteers across Europe.
Technical Documentation: Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for all infrastructure setups and processes.
What skills do you need to excel in this role?
Research shows that (oftentimes) female candidates only apply when they meet 100% of the requirements, while male candidates do so when they meet just 60%. We explicitly encourage everyone to apply: you don’t have to tick every box to apply. We also consider your potential and motivation!
Leadership Potential: Experience in leading or co-leading technical teams, including mentoring and delegating tasks to achieve shared goals.
Infrastructure Expertise: Experience with modern IT infrastructure, especially using Kubernetes and Opentofu/Terraform. No manual deployments, only GitOps.
Project Management Acumen: Ability to manage complex technical projects, including planning, risk assessment, stakeholder communication, and delivery.
Security-First Mindset: Strong understanding of IT security principles, data privacy (GDPR), and best practices for securing cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
Excellent Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, and to work effectively with co-leads and other department heads.
What requirements do we ask for this role?
Project & Team Management Experience: Experience managing projects and team members, ideally in an IT context.
Proficiency in English: Strong command of the English language is required for internal communication and documentation.
Legal Membership: You must be a legal member of Volt Europa.
Time Commitment: You can commit time regularly (expected to be 8–10 hours per week), with the flexibility to adapt working hours to fit your life.
Nice to have:
Experience with working on a volunteer basis for a (tech) team.
What do we offer?
The opportunity to make a tangible impact on a pan-European political movement and contribute to shaping Europe's future.
A dynamic environment where no day is the same and no challenge is too big for you and your colleagues.
A flexible, remote work environment where you will collaborate with passionate, like-minded individuals from across Europe.
Valuable experience in a fast-paced international political organization, ideal for professional development and networking.
