Internal Communications Volunteer (f/m/d)

Volunteer role | Remote | Approximately 5-10 hours per week

Do you enjoy turning updates into clear, engaging stories and helping people find the information they need? Would you like to keep Volt members informed, inspired and connected across Europe? Join Volt Europa's Internal Communications Team and help share what is happening across our movement, celebrate its achievements and make our shared knowledge easier to use.

Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?

Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with more than 360 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 35,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.

What will you be doing?

As a member of the Internal Communications Team, you will help members follow developments across Volt and find reliable information about how our organisation works. Depending on your skills and interests, you may:

  • co-write and edit updates from European Communities and Functional Teams, making their drafts clear, accurate and engaging;

  • write news, announcements and event posts, and prepare them for publication on Haiilo, Volt's internal platform, including the European Infoboard, in coordination with the Internal Communications Lead;

  • collect success stories from chapters, communities and teams across Europe, and turn them into posts that celebrate achievements and share what others can learn from them;

  • gather contributions, check details with the relevant teams and help maintain an editorial calendar so updates reach members at the right time;

  • keep central information up to date, including FAQs, guides and key organisational resources, by following up with the teams responsible for their content;

  • make information easier to find by improving page structure, headings and links, and sharing practical posts on where to find key resources;

  • work with the Internal Communications Lead and relevant Haiilo and knowledge management contributors to improve content organisation, templates and editorial workflows;

  • join regular online team meetings, provide reliable progress updates and coordinate with contributors on assignments and deadlines.

Depending on your focus and availability, a typical writing contribution could be one regular post per week or one more in-depth success story per month. We will agree a manageable mix of writing and information maintenance with you.

What skills do you need to excel in this role?

You do not need to tick every box. To excel in this role, you:

  • write and edit clear, engaging content, with an eye for structure, accuracy and tone;

  • ask useful questions, gather stories proactively and identify what matters to members across Europe;

  • organise information logically, spot gaps or outdated content and follow up with the people who can clarify or update it;

  • use sound editorial judgement and handle sensitive or confidential internal information with care;

  • give and receive feedback respectfully and collaborate with volunteers from different backgrounds and disciplines;

  • manage assignments and deadlines remotely and communicate early when you need guidance or context.

What are the requirements?

For this role, you:

  • have excellent written English; English is the working language of Volt Europa's Internal Communications Team;

  • have strong writing and editing skills and a careful eye for grammar, logic, consistency and tone;

  • can volunteer approximately 5-10 hours per week remotely; the work is largely asynchronous, alongside regular online team meetings;

  • are committed to diversity and inclusion in both the content we produce and how we work together.

Nice to have

It would be helpful if you have:

  • practical experience in internal communications, editing, journalism or storytelling;

  • experience maintaining wikis, FAQs, knowledge bases or organisational documentation;

  • experience with Haiilo or other intranet platforms, Google Workspace or Asana;

  • experience using Canva or creating simple visuals to support written content;

  • additional European language skills.

What do we offer?

We offer:

  • a flexible, remote volunteering environment with collaborators across Europe;

  • the opportunity to help build Volt Europa's Internal Communications Team and a more connected European community;

  • hands-on experience in internal communications, storytelling, content planning and knowledge management;

  • room to develop your writing, interviewing, editing and collaboration skills;

  • the opportunity to help members discover achievements, exchange ideas and use shared knowledge across Europe.
