European Community Core Team Member (f/m/d)

Volunteer role | Remote | Approximately 5-10 hours per week

Do you enjoy bringing people together and helping them turn ideas into action? Can you support volunteers with different backgrounds, interests and levels of experience? Then apply to join the Core Team of one of Volt's European Communities and help its members stay motivated, connected, active and informed.

Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?

Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with more than 360 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 35,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.

What will you be doing?

European Communities bring together Volters around shared interests to develop social initiatives, research, advocacy, policy, events and support for candidates and elected representatives. As a Core Team Member, you help create the conditions for Community Members to initiate and lead this work. Project initiators and participants remain responsible for its substantive delivery.

Depending on your skills, interests and the Community's needs, you may work on:

  • General Community facilitation: keep the Community active and autonomous through regular meetings, shared responsibilities and coordination with Volt's teams, Academy and Board.

  • Recruitment, onboarding and offboarding: support members as they join, contribute and leave, and gather their feedback.

  • Project and activity facilitation: connect members with collaborators, expertise, tools and funding to support projects, activities and incoming requests, including policy coordination.

  • Communication: keep Haiilo current and work with Communications to share activities, results and participation opportunities internally and publicly.

  • Moderation: maintain safe, accessible and respectful discussions, applying conduct rules and seeking support when needed.

  • Networking and partnerships: connect with Communities, Chapters and external organisations to support member-led partnerships and shared societal impact.

You are not expected to cover all these tasks. Responsibilities are agreed within the Core Team, with at least two members sharing each task for continuity and backup. When applying, indicate which Community and tasks interest you; the relevant Core Team will discuss its needs and a suitable role with you. Communities can start small and expand their activities as they develop.

What skills do you need to excel in this role?

You do not need to tick every box. To excel in this role, you:

  • connect people across perspectives, expertise and availability;

  • listen, communicate clearly and adapt to cultural differences;

  • organise tasks, track progress and follow up without taking over;

  • take initiative, share responsibility and give volunteers clear expectations, autonomy and appreciation;

  • guide inclusive discussions, handle disagreement calmly and seek support when needed.

What requirements do we ask for this role?

For this role, you:

  • are a Member of Volt;

  • are interested in the Community's field and willing to learn its working methods and Handbook;

  • can collaborate with volunteers across Europe in English;

  • can volunteer approximately 5–10 hours weekly, mostly asynchronously, and join a monthly online Community meeting, usually in the European evening, plus Core Team coordination;

  • uphold inclusion, integrity, respectful cooperation and Volt's values and European Code of Conduct.

Nice to have

It would be helpful if you have:

  • experience with community organising, volunteer coordination, project management, event organising, recruitment, onboarding, communication, moderation, fundraising or partnerships;

  • familiarity with Volt's Communities, Functional Teams, Policy Infrastructure, Haiilo or collaborative tools;

  • additional European languages.

What do we offer?

We offer:

  • flexible remote volunteering with collaborators across Europe;

  • opportunities to turn grassroots ideas into political and societal action;

  • practical experience in community organising, facilitation and international collaboration;

  • development of communication, coordination and relationship-building skills;

  • freedom to contribute according to your interests, skills and Community needs;

  • shared responsibilities and support from your Core Team, European Community Team and relevant Functional Teams.
