Editor & Storyteller (f/m/d)
Volunteer role | Remote | Approximately 5-10 hours per week
Are you an attentive editor who can explain complex policies clearly to a wide audience, without losing meaning? Can you turn technical knowledge into compelling stories, strong headlines and engaging copy for different audiences and formats? Do you enjoy collaborating with volunteers across cultures and disciplines? Then apply to join Volt Europa's Editorial & Storytelling Team and help strengthen both our policy texts and the way we communicate them.
Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?
Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with more than 360 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 35,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.
What will you be doing?
As a member of the Editorial & Storytelling Team, you will make Volt's policy writing clear and accessible and turn established policy and political direction into accurate, engaging communication. Depending on your skills and interests, you may:
edit policy texts for clarity, structure, coherence, accessibility and presentation while preserving their substantive meaning.
draft and finalise Political Statements and Electoral Campaign Programme content.
identify core messages and turn complex material into persuasive narratives connecting the issue, Volt's values, our policy response and the future we want to build.
adapt content into titles, opinion pieces, social-media copy, short-form video or reel scripts, carousels and calls to action for different audiences and channels.
flag unclear, unsupported or potentially misleading claims and refer substantive questions to the authors rather than changing Volt's position independently.
collaborate with the Comms Team, Political Team, European Communities, Policy Coordination Team and Policy Quality Review Team.
develop shared editorial guidelines, a consistent Volt voice, internal workflows and constructive feedback practices.
join periodic online meetings, provide reliable progress updates and coordinate directly with those involved in active texts or projects.
What skills do you need to excel in this role?
You do not need to tick every box. To excel in this role, you:
improve language, structure and flow while distinguishing editorial changes from substantive policy changes.
identify the central message, build a compelling narrative and write strong long- and short-form copy.
absorb complex information and express it accurately for different audiences.
recognise the political meaning of wording, framing and tone and handle sensitive subjects with care.
give and receive feedback respectfully and collaborate with volunteers from different backgrounds and disciplines.
manage assignments and deadlines remotely and communicate early when you need guidance or context.
What are the requirements?
For this role, you:
have English proficiency at CEFR level C2; English is the working language of Volt Europa's policy teams.
have strong writing and editing skills and a careful eye for grammar, logic, consistency and tone.
can volunteer approximately 5-10 hours per week remotely; the work is largely asynchronous. Online meetings are scheduled based on the wider team's availability and may take place during working hours or in the evening.
are committed to diversity and inclusion in both the content we produce and how we work together.
Nice to have
It would be helpful if you have:
formal training or practical experience in editing, journalism, communications, political writing or storytelling.
experience writing for social media, video, campaigns or other audience-specific formats.
experience in a political, policy, advocacy or volunteer-led environment.
experience collaborating with designers, video creators or social-media teams.
additional European language skills.
What do we offer?
We offer:
a flexible, remote volunteering environment with collaborators across Europe.
the opportunity to shape a newly combined editorial, writing and storytelling function.
hands-on experience editing policy and turning it into public-facing political communication.
room to develop your editorial judgement, political writing and cross-format storytelling.
the opportunity to strengthen how Volt explains its ideas and engages people across Europe.
