CiviCRM Maintainer (f/m/d)

CiviCRM is our new platform for management of our 35 000 members, event organization, email sending, and donation requests. As of May 2026 we are running it productively, but still have to onboard chapters into the platform.

Our goal is to work with the community teams of our 30+ Volt chapters to:

  • Building onboarding forms and procedures.

  • Implementing the roles and permissioning system.

  • Implementing tutorials in Volt’s e-learning platform to train users of CiviCRM.

We’re looking for people to support us on these topics to help us grow the platform. If you can donate a couple of hours per week to support us, let us know!

Do you want to contribute to Europe's future?

Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 200 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.

Volt is an inclusive movement that wants to provide space for everyone to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for our society at large. We can only be the inclusive political movement we aspire to be, if we represent different voices and perspectives in our society. Your skin colour, gender identity, disabilities, sexual orientation or religious belief do not matter. You are welcome in our organisation, and we want to work together with you to create a better Europe for everyone.

What will you do?

As a maintainer in CiviCRM you will support the effort with:

  • Building forms for onboarding or member management activities.

  • Developing tutorials to help users of CiviCRM.

  • Maintaining events and donation pages.

  • Gathering requirements from stakeholders.

  • Supporting the onboarding of all 30+ chapters.

What skills do you need to excel in this role?

Research shows that (oftentimes) female candidates only apply when they meet 100% of the requirements, while male candidates do so when they meet just 60%. We explicitly encourage everyone to apply: you don’t have to tick every box to apply. We also consider your potential and motivation!

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate a general understanding of IT systems, including infrastructure, software integration, and troubleshooting. Apply knowledge of data management principles to ensure accurate, secure, and efficient handling of member, donor, or customer data within the CRM.

  • Payment Processing Integration: Understand payment processors like Stripe and ClubCollect. Ensure compliance with payment security standards and troubleshoot integration issues.

  • Community Collaboration: Work closely with community teams to gather requirements, address user needs, and provide training or documentation for CRM adoption. Translate community feedback into actionable improvements for the CRM system.

  • Platform Specific Expertise: Familiarity with CiviCRM and Drupal, or CRM platforms in general is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills: You bring strong experience in marketing and communications, you know how to craft messages that connect with diverse target audiences across different platforms and can see the bigger picture in terms of strategic communication planning.

  • Stakeholder management: You are open and approachable and have experience liaising with different teams at the same time. You work well with people from different backgrounds.

  • Independent, proactive & flexible: As we work remotely, you’re a self-starter who takes initiative and works effectively with little supervision, able to anticipate challenges and proactively develop solutions. You can pivot to work on unexpected projects when needed.

What requirements do we ask for this role?

  • Volunteer setting: You have experience working with volunteers, and you love to manage and empower volunteer teams in a digital ecosystem. Even in an online environment, you know how to keep people engaged.

  • Commitment: We request commitment to volunteer ~5hr / week. The work is fully remote and fully async, it can be done anywhere with an internet connection.

Nice to have

  • Excellent copywriting and editing experience: You have a knack for creating polished, persuasive content and know how to share your expertise with others.

  • Passion for politics: You’re excited about contributing to Volt Europa’s mission and values, and keen to navigate politically sensitive topics.

What do we offer?

This is a volunteering opportunity, so there will not be any salary or compensation for the work.
As a CiviCRM mantainer we will provide you with:

  • A flexible, remote work environment where you will collaborate with passionate, like-minded individuals from across Europe

  • Short decision-making processes, flat hierarchies and lots of room to implement your ideas

  • The opportunity to shape Volt’s communications strategy and have a real impact on European society and politics
